Migraines are debilitating headaches caused by spasms and constrictions of the arteries leading to the brain. Eliminating certain offending foods like cheese, chocolate, red wine, milk, coffee, shellfish and eggs may offer some relief.
Drink lots of fresh water daily (500mls at time, sipping does nothing to hydrate!) and add this juice a few times a week to your diet, as the ingredients in this juice may help to increase blood flow and to open up the blood vessels.
This juice is very hydrating and there is a sweet after taste to this juice which is quite surprising.

Ingredients

  • 100 grams Alfalfa Sprouts
  • 1 handful Red Kale
  • 2 stalks Celery
  • 2 Red Apples
  • 2 cm piece Ginger
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • 1 tbsp Tamari

Optional

  • 1 pinch Cayenne Pepper

Preparation

Alfalfa
  • No preparation needed, juice in handfuls
Kale
  • Roughly chop the leaves
Celery
  • Chop into small thumb size pieces across the stalks (this shortens the long stringy cellulose fibre and stops it wrapping around the press)
  • You can juice celery leaves, however it will add bitterness, so discard if you don’t like it
Apple
  • Remove the stems and remove any stickers
  • Juice apples whole with skin and seeds.
  • Cut in half or quarters if too big to fit into the wide chute.
Ginger
  • Cut off a 2cm thick piece
  • Cut into thin slices leaving the skin on
Lemon
  • Remove stickers and cut off any hard end points
  • Slice lemons into rounds with skin on to give more flavour and to get more juice from each lemon.

Instructions

  • Start with the alfalfa sprouts, grab a handful at a time and drop them in the wide chute.
  • Next add the red kale. You may need the pusher to help get the ingredients onto the press. Now add the celery pieces one handful at a time letting the machine chew everything. Next, add the apples followed by the ginger pieces and the lemon slices at the end.
  • Once the juice is made add 1 tbsp of Tamari to the jug, stir well and pour into a glass. Sprinkle a pinch of cayenne pepper on top (cayenne helps increase circulation).
  • Tip: Red or Russian Kale is available year-round with peak season during autumn and winter. Look for fresh, bright, firm leaves.

There is more to every fruit, vegetable and leafy green than taste and flavour. Each one has a unique signature or a "sign from nature" indicating what part of the human body its nutrition targets. The light or the colour of fruits and vegetables can help us heal emotionally (think colour therapy) and the lessons the fruits, vegetables and leafy greens learn when growing get passed onto us, to help us, when we consume them.
