Liquid Chlorophyll

Green juice is rich in Chlorophyll.

Chlorophyll is often referred to as “the blood of plants”. It helps the plants to absorb energy from sunlight and it’s what gives plants their green colour.

Side note: Liquid chlorophyll supplements do not contain chlorophyll, but a compound called chlorophyllin, a semi-synthetic mixture of sodium copper salts isolated from chlorophyll. Therefore, if you need chlorophyll, then I suggest you try the real thing over supplements and see how it outperforms the man-made versions.

Chlorophyll Rich Foods

Foods with the highest chlorophyll content that are suitable for juicing in Spring are:

  • broccoli
  • brussel sprouts
  • celery
  • coriander
  • parsley
  • spinach
  • silverbeet
  • wheatgrass, the highest chlorophyll

Interestingly the chlorophyll molecule bears a striking resemblance to hemoglobin, the red pigment in human blood. This makes it highly bioavailable to humans.

Weight Loss

Green juice is very low in calories yet high in valuable nutrients.

There are 2 ways you can use green juice recipes for weight loss:

  • A juice fast, where you consume nothing but juice for a period of 7 days or more
  • or a meal replacement with a green juice

By incorporating healthy juicing recipes for weight loss into a healthy diet along with exercise, you can lose weight and not even feel like you’re missing out on anything.

Using a cold press juicer start with a base juice from a vegetable that has a high water content.

  1. Base – celery, cucumber, or zucchini
  2. Leafy Green – kale, silverbeet, chard, or spinach
  3. Flavour – green apple and a slice or two of lemon

In a cold press juicer, you can also extract a lot of green juice and extra flavour from herbs such as parsley, mint, coriander and basil. You can also juice wheatgrass in a good cold press juicer.

 

 

Which Juicer is Best

Fast Juicers (centrifugal juicer) will waste a lot of your green produce. The metal blades are spinning so fast the light weight of the greens get flung out into the pulp bucket leaving you with very little green juice. The pulp that does just juiced is very wet as the juicer hasn’t extracted all the juice.

Blenders make a smoothie not a juice. Smoothies are a great meal replacement but they do have to be digested to eliminate the cellulose fibre (pulp) in the greens as they are not digestible which takes time and energy. Some nutrient loss also occurs from the oxygen being blended into the smoothie at high speeds. (see kuivngs vacuum blenders for more info)

Slow Juicers are the best way to extract the maximum green juice from the produce you buy. They will extract the maximum amount of green liquid nutrition whilst keeping all the enzymes and heat sensitive phytonutrients intact.
